Basis» is based on recordings of acoustical instruments. All sounds were processed and layered into compositions by steinbrüchel. Through the processing of the sounds steinbrüchel revealed structures and melodies hidden in the source recordings and isolated them into melodic and organic textures without losing the soul of the original itself. Tonal harmonics never before played such an important role in the music of steinbrüchel. Each track contains layers of subtle shifting and inter-weaving melodies, each generating a world full of atmospheres and textures. «Basis» features seven tracks of harmonic structured and melodic based compositions by steinbrüchel and reveals a new side in his music.
The four tracks entitled «Interlude 1 - 4» are based on guitar recordings from «Happiness will befall» by Lawrence English, released on Cronica in 2005. «These 1 + 2» are also based on guitar recordings from «Theory of machines» by Ben Frost, released on Bedroom Community in 2006. The track «Falter» is based on piano recordings by Bernd Schurer and was presented as a 5.1 surround installation at Leerraum in Berne, Switzerland, in November 2005.
I have been a Taylor Dupree fan for years. Like everyone else, I experienced the music, went out and found other music, lived some years, only to circle back around and re-discover it again. This album is ambient brilliance. I listen to it often, and it never disappoints. Michael K. Gause
Michael Grigoni's 'Mount Carmel' is the best thing to happen to lap / pedal steel based music in a while. Such attention to detail in every note, not a sound is wasted. Alive and energizing yet meditative and somber all at the same time. Lost Tribe Sound
